Thailand Transportations
Not only BTS and MRT, the most convenient way to get around Bangkok is by taxi. There are in traditional green-yellow and sometime in other colors like orange, red and pink. Getting a taxi is quite easy, especially around shopping malls and other tourist attractions. However, you're in a long queue for waiting when it rains, and during rush hours. The fare begins at 35 baht, for the first two kilometers. Later on, the fare gradually increases 2 baht at a time roughly per kilometer.
A surcharge applies in traffic jams around 1.25 baht per metre when moving under 6 km per hour. Typical taxi fares for going a few kilometers are around 50 baht. Speaking to taxi driver can be a problem with the majority of taxi drivers as they often speak little English. The fare of taxi is quite cheap and available virtually 24 hours a day. Meter taxis now predominate, but you should firmly ask the drivers to switch on the meter every time to save negotiating later. Since taxis are cheap and the drivers work all hours in traffic therefore a small tip is much appreciated.
