In general, once gum re-contouring has been completed some clients may experience some swelling and tenderness for about a week. If this should be the case we may advise a client to take Ibuprofen and rinse their mouths thoroughly and regularly with salt water. Our experts may also advise a client that a diet of soft foods and liquids would be appropriate for a few days post-treatment.
Am I a Candidate for gum re-contouring?
Guidance for Post-Treatment Care.
As a temporary measure a dressing will be applied to the area where surgery has been carried out will be put in place within 3 hours. Clients are advised not to chew on the area of surgery while the dressing is in place. Some clients may experience a little pain or discomfort, this is quite normal and can be eased with over the counter pain killers, such as Tylenol, Paracetamol, etc., taken as advised. If you have been prescribed antibiotics or any anti-inflammatory drugs it is vital that you follow the prescribed instructions diligently.
Some swelling may occur shortly, or the day after surgery. In this scenario a cold pack can be used to relieve the swelling by applying the cold, or ice pack, to the cheek or outer lips for 5 minutes at a time. Gently brush your teeth in the usual manner, over the surgical area use soft, wet cotton to cleanse the gums.
Should a client experience problems that they feel excessive, such as acute pain, severe swelling, or an unusual amount bleeding, we advise a prompt return to us at BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 where we can then address the problem. There will most likely be no unusual symptoms, which is the norm so then please return to our clinic of excellence on your next allotted appointment for your scheduled follow-up check and for any sutures to be removed.
