At BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 if, after a thorough examination, if we find root canal treatment is necessary, you have no need to worry. We save many, otherwise perfectly good teeth, through root canal, or endodontic treatment, every year. To fully understand root canal procedures, it is helpful to know a little about the anatomy of the tooth. If we were to strip away the white enamel outer layer of the tooth we then find a hard layer called the dentin. The dentin is protecting a soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains the blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues. The pulp is there to grow the root of the tooth during its development. Once the tooth is fully developed the tooth can survive without the pulp because the nourishment require by the tooth is supplied by the surrounding tissues. At Smile Republic you can be assured that our experts are fully versed in the anatomy of teeth and are fully conversant and experienced in the best methods of treatment involved in root canal work.
For root canal treatment it’s necessary for our endodontic expert to treat the inside of the tooth. For various reasons, such as deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, faulty crowns, or a crack or chip in the tooth, the pulp can become inflamed or infected, when this occurs Endodontic treatment is necessary. In addition, sudden trauma to a tooth can cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible damage, chips or cracks. It is essential that pulp inflammation or infection is given immediate and effective treatment, if not it can cause pain or lead to an abscess. At Smile Republic we can relieve our clients of the pain and discomfort that can be caused by an infected tooth through expert modern techniques in our friendly, state of the art surgeries.
Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort involving one to three visits. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile!
What does treatment involve?
Treatment often involves from one to three visits to our BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 center of excellence. During treatment, our endodontist (a dentist who specializes in problems of the pulp) removes the diseased pulp. The pulp chamber and root canal(s) of the tooth can then be filled and sealed. At BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 we use a market leading material called gutta-percha which is a rubber-like material developed for this specific use and has little or no adverse reactionary effects.
For many years root canal work has been the butt of many jokes as to the severity and pain that it involves. However, with modern treatment the contrary is true. It is very similar to having a routine filling and can usually be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances. You can expect a comfortable experience at BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 during and after your appointment.
Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:
Efficient chewing
Normal biting force and sensation
Natural appearance
Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain
Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last as long as other natural teeth and often for a lifetime.
What are typical symptoms of root canal infection?
Depending on the cause, symptoms can be numerous and varied:
Sharp, acute and intense pain, which is difficult to pinpoint
Sharp pain when biting down on your tooth or on food
Lingering pain after eating hot or cold foods
Dull ache and pressure
Tenderness (accompanied by swelling) in the nearby gums
Our BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 experts are extremely skilled and experienced in diagnosing the problems associated with all root canal symptoms.
Here's how BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC can save your tooth through treatment :
• First, an opening is made through the crown of the tooth.
• An opening is made through the crown of the tooth into the pulp chamber.
• The pulp is then removed. The root canal(s) is cleaned and shaped to a form that can be filled.
• The pulp is removed, and the root canals are cleaned, enlarged and shaped.
• Medications may be put in the pulp chamber and root canal(s) to help get rid of germs and prevent infection.
• A temporary filling will be placed in the crown opening to protect the tooth between dental visits. Your dentist may leave the tooth open for a few days to drain. You might also be given medicine to help control
• infection that may have spread beyond the tooth.
• The pulp chamber and root canals are filled and sealed.
• The temporary filling is removed and the pulp chamber and root canal(s) are cleaned and filled.
• In the final step, a gold or porcelain crown is usually placed over the tooth. If our endodontist performs the treatment, he or she will recommend that you return to your family dentist for this final step.
• The crown of the tooth is then restored.
How long will the restored tooth last?
A tooth restored by Smile Republic could last a lifetime, if you continue to care for your teeth and gums with proper dental hygiene. However, regular checkups are necessary. As long as the root(s) of a treated tooth are nourished by the tissues around it, your tooth will remain healthy.
What Should One Expect After the Root Canal treatment?
The root canal procedure we undertake should relieve the pain you feel. Until your root canal procedure is completely finished, that is to say the permanent filling is in place and/or the crown is place, it's wise to minimize chewing on the tooth under repair. This step will help avoid recontamination of the interior of the tooth and also may prevent a fragile tooth from breaking before the tooth can be fully restored. Our BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 expert will advise you on the preventative care needed until the procedure has been completed. For the first few days following the completion of treatment, the tooth may feel sensitive due to natural tissue inflammation, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure. This sensitivity or discomfort usually can be controlled with over-the-counter analgesics such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or naproxen. Most patients can return to their normal activities the next day. As far as oral health care is concerned, brush and floss as you regularly would and see your dentist at normally scheduled intervals. Because the final step of the root canal procedure is application of a restoration such as a crown or a filling, it will not be obvious to onlookers that a root canal was performed. Root canal treatment is highly successful, the procedure has more than a 95% success rate. Many teeth fixed with a root canal can last a lifetime.
Can all teeth be treated endodontically?
At BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC we can treat most teeth. Occasionally, a tooth can’t be saved because the root canals are not accessible, the root is severely fractured, the tooth doesn’t have adequate bone support, or the tooth cannot be restored. In this scenario at BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 we will advise you on what alternative options are open to you. However, advances in endodontics are making it possible to save teeth that even a few years ago would have been lost, because at BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 we use the most modern, up to date treatments we are saving more and more teeth through our root canal work. When endodontic treatment is not effective, endodontic surgery may be able to save the tooth.
